Service Completed: Custom Cat-Back Exhaust System with Rear Oval Box & Twin Staggered Tips

At MIJ Exhaust Ltd, we recently carried out a complete custom cat-back exhaust upgrade on this 1990 BMW 320i 2.0L Petrol, enhancing both the sound and appearance of this classic BMW while maintaining the character that makes these vehicles so popular among enthusiasts.

For this build, we fabricated and installed a custom mid and rear exhaust system from the catalytic converter backwards. By replacing the original ageing exhaust components with a bespoke cat-back system, we were able to improve exhaust flow, increase durability, and give the vehicle a more refined and engaging exhaust note.

To achieve the desired sound and finish, the system was completed with a custom rear oval silencer. This setup helps deliver a deeper, more purposeful tone that suits the classic 2.0-litre engine while maintaining comfortable everyday usability. The rear box also provides a clean and balanced appearance beneath the rear bumper, complementing the timeless styling of the BMW.

Finishing the system, we fitted a pair of twin staggered exhaust tips, giving the rear of the vehicle a subtle performance-inspired look. The staggered design adds depth and visual interest, providing a classic motorsport appearance that perfectly suits the lines of the E30 generation BMW. The upgraded tailpipes provide a premium finishing touch while enhancing the overall rear-end aesthetics of the vehicle.

The completed system delivers a noticeably deeper and more distinctive exhaust note compared to the factory setup, allowing the naturally aspirated 2.0-litre engine to produce a more enjoyable soundtrack while retaining excellent drivability. Combined with the custom rear section and twin staggered tips, the upgrade significantly improves both the sound and appearance of the vehicle.
