Service Completed: Custom Cat-Back Exhaust Upgrade with Sports Cats

At MIJ Exhaust Ltd, we recently completed a bespoke exhaust upgrade on this Mercedes SL500 (R129) 5.0L Petrol, designed to improve exhaust flow, enhance sound, and refine overall performance while staying true to the car’s luxury grand tourer character.

This build featured a full custom cat-back system, including both mid and rear sections, along with twin sports catalytic converters. The upgraded setup significantly improves exhaust gas flow compared to the factory system, allowing the V8 engine to breathe more freely and deliver a smoother, more responsive driving experience.

The addition of sports cats helps unlock a deeper, more refined exhaust note, enhancing the natural tone of the 5.0L V8 without becoming overly intrusive. The result is a more engaging sound profile that still retains the SL500’s signature refinement and usability.

As with all of our systems, this exhaust was hand-fabricated in-house using high-quality T304 stainless steel and fully TIG welded, ensuring excellent durability, corrosion resistance, and a precise, factory-quality fit.
